Rolls-Royce, Turkish Technic launch top-tier engine MRO facility.

by Editorial Staff

Rolls-Royce and Turkish Technic have officially broken ground on a state-of-the-art engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) centre at Istanbul Airport. Announced as the newest member of the Rolls-Royce MRO network in May 2025, this strategic facility is designed to address the growing global demand for servicing next-generation large civil engines.

The new centre, targeted to be operational by the end of 2027, will specialize in comprehensive maintenance for Rolls-Royce Trent engines, specifically the Trent XWB-97, Trent XWB-84, and Trent 7000 models. These engines power the Airbus A350 and A330neo aircraft families. With a planned capacity of 200 shop visits annually, it is set to become one of the largest MRO facilities of its kind in the region. The centre will primarily support Rolls-Royce’s TotalCare customers and the expanding fleet of Turkish Airlines, which includes a historic late-2023 order for Airbus A350s, making it the world’s largest operator of the Trent XWB engine.

Rob Watson, President of Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce, highlighted the significance of the project: “Breaking ground on this facility is a significant milestone for our global MRO network. We are significantly increasing our global MRO capacity by 2030, and today’s announcement marks another step on that journey. It reinforces our strong partnership with Turkish Airlines and underlines Turkish Technic’s commitment to becoming a leading provider of civil large aero engine MRO.”

Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of Turkish Technic, emphasized the partnership’s strategic value: “This investment represents a major expansion of our technical capabilities. Set to become one of Europe’s largest centres for Trent engines, it reinforces Türkiye’s growing role as a global aviation hub, aligned with our centennial 2033 objectives. We will ensure Rolls-Royce TotalCare customers receive best-in-class service.”

This facility strengthens the longstanding partnership between the two companies, enhancing Rolls-Royce’s global service footprint while elevating Turkish Technic’s standing as a foremost MRO provider. It directly supports the maintenance needs stemming from Turkish Airlines’ massive fleet expansion, ensuring local, world-class engine support for decades to come.
