Teledyne Technologies Incorporated announced that its subsidiary, Teledyne FLIR Defense, has been awarded a contract valued at over $35 million from WB Electronics S.A., part of the WB Group. The agreement calls for equipping reconnaissance vehicles with TacFLIR® 280-HDEP medium-range multi-spectral surveillance systems.
Designed for diverse land missions, the TacFLIR 280-HDEP provides advanced daylight and thermal imaging, enhanced video processing, and Aided Target Recognition (AiTR) capability. The sensor system has undergone field testing in Europe for nearly a decade, demonstrating reliability in harsh environments.
Dr. JihFen Lei, president of Teledyne Defense and Aerospace, noted that integrating the system into reconnaissance vehicles reflects a long-standing collaboration with WB Electronics. He emphasized that the technology offers warfighters superior electro-optical/infrared imagery and intelligent tracking, improving situational awareness while reducing operator risk.
This contract marks Teledyne FLIR Defense’s third European armored vehicle program announcement this year. In February, the company reported that its Black Hornet 4 nano-drone would be digitally integrated onto Switzerland’s Piranha 8×8 vehicles to stream live video and targeting data. In January, FLIR Defense announced it would supply long-range thermal imaging sights and radars for Bulgaria’s new Stryker vehicles. Combined, the three contracts total more than $85 million.
The TacFLIR 280-HDEP is designed and manufactured at Teledyne FLIR Defense’s facility in Billerica, Massachusetts.
