Aurora Flight Sciences played a foundational role in designing Wisk’s Generation 6 aircraft, which recently completed its first flight—marking the first-ever FAA-certifiable commercial autonomous passenger air taxi. Aurora engineers tackled four key areas: battery safety (energy storage, heat management, wiring integrity), aerodynamic stability (hover precision), GNC systems (pilotless flight computing), and structural integrity (bonding, lightning protection). The test included vertical takeoff, hover, and stabilized maneuvers. “The first flight is the culmination of years of collaboration with Wisk,” said Clint Church, Aurora’s interim president and CEO. “It lays the groundwork for certification of the world’s first all-electric, autonomous 4-seat air taxi.” Aurora continues working with Wisk on the flight test program to validate design models and performance .
