Lockheed Martin continues its flawless execution of the Japanese Aegis System Equipped Vessel (ASEV) program, announcing today the successful delivery of the second shipment of AN/SPY-7(V)1 radar equipment. This delivery to the Japan Ministry of Defense (JMOD), facilitated with Mitsubishi Corporation, keeps the ambitious two-ship program firmly on track for its scheduled commissioning.

Building directly on the momentum of the first delivery in June 2025, this shipment represents more than just a hardware transfer. It is a key programmatic achievement that underscores Lockheed Martin’s ability to scale production and deliver complex, integrated systems on an accelerated timeline. The equipment will now enter a critical phase of full system integration and testing, a rigorous process designed to validate performance and eliminate risks long before installation aboard the vessel.

Chandra Marshall, vice president of Multi-Domain Combat Solutions at Lockheed Martin, emphasized the program’s progress. “Achieving this delivery milestone back-to-back with the first shipment demonstrates the maturity of our production line and the scalability of the SPY-7 technology,” she said. “We are committed to providing the JMOD with a low-risk path to fielding an exceptionally capable naval defense platform, and we are proud to support their timeline for the 2027 and 2028 commissioning.”

The AN/SPY-7(V)1 radar is the technological powerhouse behind the ASEVs. Its advanced detection and tracking capabilities are specifically designed to counter the diverse and complex threats facing modern naval forces, allowing for the simultaneous engagement of multiple targets. This ensures the JMOD’s new vessels will be among the most capable in the world upon entering service.

With both ASEVs progressing towards their 2027 and 2028 in-service dates, Lockheed Martin’s consistent delivery performance is a clear signal of its dedication to strengthening allied defense capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region. The program serves as a model for international defense cooperation, delivering world-class technology to meet a critical national security need.
