A new trans-national partnership is set to cultivate the next generation of defence technology experts. Swedish aerospace and defence company Saab has signed a collaboration agreement with the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), uniting industrial might with frontline academic insight to advance critical capabilities in UAVs and microelectronics.

More than just a research pact, the agreement establishes a long-term framework designed to educate future experts and strengthen technological resilience. By facilitating joint research projects and student collaboration, the initiative will allow KSE’s brightest minds to work directly with Saab’s experienced engineers on real-world challenges. The focus is on creating a seamless exchange of knowledge, where experimental academic research is directly informed by the practical demands of modern defence systems.

“This partnership is an investment in intellectual capital,” explained Anders Carp, Deputy CEO of Saab. “By collaborating with KSE, we gain access to a pool of talented engineers and researchers who are working at the very edge of what’s possible in UAVs and microelectronics. Their insights, born from immediate challenges, are incredibly valuable. We are not just developing technology together; we are helping to shape the experts who will lead the future of defence.”

The sentiment was echoed by KSE’s leadership. Rector Tymofii Brik stated, “At KSE, our educational model is built on the intersection of technology, security, and practical application. This collaboration with Saab is a perfect realization of that vision. It gives our students and researchers a direct line to a global technology leader, ensuring that their work is not just academically rigorous, but also critically relevant to operational needs. It’s about building a resilient technological community together.”

Through this alliance, KSE’s applied research approach meets Saab’s systems-level expertise. The partnership aims to create a dynamic ecosystem where academic breakthroughs are quickly understood, tested, and integrated into operationally relevant platforms, ensuring that both organizations are better equipped to navigate an increasingly complex security environment.
