GE Aerospace Partners with AerCap to Manage GE9X Engine Leasing and Support

by Editorial Staff

In a strategic move to bolster global support for the new Boeing 777X, GE Aerospace has selected AerCap Holdings, a world leader in aviation leasing, to manage its GE9X engine lease pool. The seven-year agreement solidifies a key partnership ahead of the engine’s entry into service, ensuring 777X operators will have access to comprehensive maintenance and leasing services from day one.

This new contract expands a long-standing relationship, as AerCap will continue to provide its lease pool management expertise for other GE engine families, including the GEnx, GE90, CF6, and CF34.

Russell Stokes, President and CEO of Commercial Engines and Services at GE Aerospace, emphasized the importance of a ready support ecosystem. “The 777X represents the future of long-haul travel, and this agreement ensures its revolutionary engine will be backed by an equally advanced support network,” Stokes stated. “AerCap’s global reach and deep experience with our engine portfolio make them the ideal partner to deliver reliability and safety for our customers.”

Under the agreement, AerCap will oversee a wide range of critical services for the GE9X. This includes managing shop visits, coordinating lease returns, and providing technical and administrative support. This integrated approach is designed to maximize engine availability and streamline operations for airlines.

For AerCap, the deal signifies a deepening of its alliance with GE Aerospace. “This partnership extends our collaboration well into the next decade and integrates the groundbreaking GE9X into our service offerings,” said Tom Slattery, Executive Vice President of AerCap Engines. “We will leverage our established industrial network to provide unparalleled support for GE’s latest engine technology.”

The GE9X is the largest and most fuel-efficient commercial jet engine ever built, offering a 10% improvement in fuel consumption over its predecessor. It is exclusively powering the Boeing 777X family—the 777-9, 777-8, and the newly launched 777-8 Freighter. Like all GE Aerospace commercial engines, the GE9X is certified to operate on approved Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blends.
