ST Engineering’s Commercial Aerospace business has significantly expanded its long-term collaboration with LOT Polish Airlines, securing an exclusive, five-year agreement to provide comprehensive nacelle Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services. This new contract covers the airline’s entire fleet of 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, solidifying a key strategic partnership.
Central to this multi-year agreement is the introduction of a pioneering structured refurbishment programme. This initiative marks a fundamental shift in nacelle lifecycle management for LOT, moving from a traditional, reactive maintenance model to a proactive, data-driven framework. By embedding predictive maintenance methodologies and leveraging soft time-based scheduling alongside predictive reliability modelling, the programme is designed to transform fleet operations.
The core benefits of this enhanced approach are manifold. It aims to substantially minimise unplanned, unscheduled removals, thereby increasing aircraft availability and operational reliability. Furthermore, the programme promises improved turnaround performance for maintenance events and an optimised total cost of ownership. For LOT Polish Airlines, this translates into stronger cost governance, enhanced operational resilience, and greater long-term asset integrity for its 787 fleet.
Henrik Scholtfeldt, Head of Global Nacelle MRO at ST Engineering, commented on the agreement, stating, “This agreement reflects LOT Polish Airlines’ continued trust and confidence in us to keep their Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet flying safely. By including predictive maintenance in our partnership, we are able to further strengthen our service consistency and support LOT Polish Airlines in reaching higher cost efficiency and operational resilience.”
Echoing the strategic importance of the deal, Wiktor Radon, Technical Operations Managing Director at LOT Polish Airlines, said, “This programme is a strategic investment in operational efficiency and long-term value creation for fleet resilience. Predictive maintenance provides measurable advantages: fewer unscheduled events, assured turnaround times, and enhanced aircraft availability — outcomes that underpin our financial objectives and reinforce service continuity for our customers.”
This extended partnership underscores a growing industry trend towards leveraging data analytics and predictive technologies in MRO, moving beyond routine servicing to create more intelligent, efficient, and cost-effective aviation maintenance ecosystems.
