P&W Wins Deal to Power Leidos’ New Small Cruise Missile

by Editorial Staff

In a move that highlights the surging demand for precision strike capabilities, Pratt & Whitney (an RTX company) has been awarded a follow-on contract to supply TJ150 engines for Leidos Dynetics’ AGM-190A small cruise missile. The deal reinforces the engine’s role as a critical component in the global defense supply chain.

The TJ150 is not merely a source of propulsion; it is a study in scalability. Generating over 150 pounds of thrust, the engine is optimized for high-altitude flight and can be scaled efficiently to meet varying production quotas. With more than 2,700 units already delivered worldwide, it currently powers multiple missile applications, proving its reliability in the field.

Pratt & Whitney is now doubling down on manufacturing innovation to meet future demand. The company is embedding additive manufacturing techniques into the TJ150 development cycle. This effort aims to expedite engine production by enhancing supply chain resilience and reducing lead times, ensuring that partners like Leidos Dynetics receive engines faster than ever before.

Jessica Villardi, Vice President of Fighter and Mobility Programs, noted the strategic importance of availability. “In today’s contested environments, having a reliable engine available in volume is just as important as the thrust it provides. The TJ150 offers both. It delivers consistent, high-altitude performance while our manufacturing initiatives ensure we can scale up quickly to support domestic and international customer needs.”
