FN America, LLC, announced that it has received a $9.9 million contract to supply FN® M240B machine guns to the U.S. Army and Navy. The deal continues the production of the company’s longest-standing military platform, which has been a staple of the U.S. arsenal since the late 1970s.
Jim Williams, Vice President of Military Programs, underscored the award’s significance. “This continues FN’s legacy of supporting the warfighter with superior weapons. The M240 contract was our first in the U.S.—the first produced in South Carolina—and we are incredibly honored to keep delivering these systems to our servicemen and women.”
The M240B is the military’s premier medium machine gun, providing unmatched reliability and sustained fire for infantry units. Chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, it features a cold hammer-forged MIL-SPEC barrel with a hard-chromed bore for extended life and accuracy, reaching out to 3,725 meters. The platform combines a machined steel receiver with a top-mounted optical rail and a curved trigger for precise control.
“Since 1981, FN has manufactured millions of firearms for the U.S. military at our South Carolina facility,” added Daryl Atkins, Director of Industrialized Weapons. “We are extremely proud of that heritage and look forward to continuing this tradition.”
As one of the largest small arms suppliers to the U.S. military, FN America remains at the forefront of weapon development. Alongside the M240B, the company manufactures specialized systems for USSOCOM—including the MK 46, MK 48, and MK 17—and continues to invest in innovative technology for future defense needs.
