German shipbuilder thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) and Canadian training giant CAE have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at Canada’s future submarine fleet. The Teaming Agreement, announced on March 6, 2026, establishes a collaborative framework to develop and deliver advanced training solutions for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP).

The agreement focuses on creating a comprehensive training ecosystem that combines TKMS’s submarine design expertise with CAE’s world-leading simulation technology. The partnership will address every aspect of training, from advanced simulation systems and digital learning environments to physical infrastructure and long-term sustainment support. The goal is to ensure Royal Canadian Navy crews achieve peak operational readiness through training that mirrors the complexity of real-world submarine operations.

TKMS CEO Oliver Burkhard emphasized training as a critical pillar of naval effectiveness, noting that integrating CAE’s global simulation expertise strengthens their ability to offer a holistic solution for Canada’s submarine program.

CAE President and CEO Matt Bromberg echoed the commitment, stating that preparing submarine crews demands precision and absolute readiness. He highlighted CAE’s decades of experience preparing naval teams worldwide through mission-ready training and expressed pride in partnering with TKMS to enhance the Royal Canadian Navy’s long-term security and capability.

Beyond the immediate Canadian project, the Teaming Agreement also creates a pathway for future collaboration on international naval programs. By leveraging TKMS’s global customer base and CAE’s established worldwide training network, the partners aim to deliver sustainable, high-value solutions on a global scale. The agreement underscores a shared commitment to Canadian industry development, skilled employment, and long-term economic benefits.
