Air Astana Group has solidified its long-term growth strategy by signing a firm contract for 25 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, marking the largest direct purchase in the company’s history. The deal, announced on the 20th anniversary of the group first operating an A320 in 2006, comprises five A320neo and 20 A321neo jets.
The new aircraft will be allocated to both full-service carrier Air Astana and its low-cost unit, FlyArystan, supporting the group’s ongoing fleet renewal and expansion. Currently, the airline group operates 59 Airbus A320 Family aircraft.
Peter Foster, CEO of Air Astana, emphasized the strategic importance of the order. “This commitment to a new A320neo fleet underscores our dedication to long-term operational efficiency and service quality,” Foster stated. He highlighted the A321LR’s role in offering a premium long-haul narrow-body product, blending range with a superior passenger experience, which he believes will drive sustainable growth and profitability.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP of Commercial Aircraft Sales, noted the deal’s significance in a rapidly growing market. “This order reinforces the A320neo Family’s strong value in Kazakhstan and the wider region,” he said. “It strengthens our decades-long partnership with Air Astana as it continues to set benchmarks for fleet modernization and passenger experience.”
The A320neo Family, with over 19,000 orders globally, offers at least 20% fuel and CO2 savings compared to previous models. It is also capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel, with Airbus aiming for 100% compatibility by 2030.
