SunExpress signs five-year engine maintenance deal with Lufthansa Technik.

by Editorial Staff

SunExpress and Lufthansa Technik have solidified their partnership with a new five-year comprehensive engine maintenance agreement. The deal, signed at SunExpress’s Antalya headquarters, covers the airline’s entire Boeing 737 fleet, including both its 737-800s with CFM56-7B engines and its newer 737-8 aircraft powered by LEAP-1B engines.

All engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) work will be performed at Lufthansa Technik’s specialized facilities in Hamburg, Germany. The scope of services is broad, ranging from minor repairs and quick-turn services to full performance restoration overhauls. The first engines under this new contract are scheduled for induction in Hamburg in the first quarter of the year. To ensure flexibility, the agreement also allows for work to be carried out at XEOS, Lufthansa Technik’s joint venture in Poland, to provide additional capacity as needed.

SunExpress Chief Operating Officer, Cemil Sayar, emphasized the strategic importance of the agreement, stating it reinforces their commitment to fleet reliability and supports the airline’s ongoing fleet development by covering both current and next-generation engine technology. He highlighted the value placed on Lufthansa Technik’s proven expertise.

Echoing this sentiment, Harald Gloy, Chief Operations Officer at Lufthansa Technik, expressed pleasure at supporting both engine generations. He noted the steady transition to new engines like the LEAP-1B, while the CFM56-7B continues to be a robust platform requiring expert MRO services.

This long-term contract builds upon a foundation of trust established through previous collaboration. In 2024, Lufthansa Technik successfully completed a performance restoration on a SunExpress CFM56-7B engine. The partnership extends beyond engine services to include support for Consumables and Expendables (C&E), and SunExpress utilizes Lufthansa Technik’s AMOS software, a leading platform in its Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem. The new agreement marks a significant next chapter in the ongoing relationship between the two companies.
