WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a significant move to power its ambitious international expansion, Uzbekistan’s national carrier has cemented a major fleet investment. Boeing and Uzbekistan Airways jointly announced the firm order for eight 787-9 Dreamliners, a deal finalized at the C5+1 Summit in the U.S. capital.

The agreement converts existing options into a firm purchase, solidifying the airline’s long-term commitment to the advanced widebody aircraft. With this new commitment, Uzbekistan Airways’ total order book for the 787 Dreamliner reaches 22 aircraft, marking one of the most substantial fleet modernization programs in the region.

The signing ceremony was a highlight of the international summit, witnessed by high-ranking officials from both nations, underscoring the strategic trade and partnership ties between the United States and Uzbekistan. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and the Republic of Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, were present for the milestone event.

The 787-9, renowned for its fuel efficiency, passenger comfort, and long-range capability, is perfectly suited for Uzbekistan Airways’ growth strategy. These “ultra-efficient” jets will serve as the backbone for the airline’s plans to open new long-haul routes and increase flight frequency on existing services. The Dreamliner’s versatility allows for profitable operations on various distances, connecting Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, to key destinations across Asia, Europe, and potentially North America.

“We are proud to deepen our partnership with Boeing with this important order,” said a representative for Uzbekistan Airways. “The 787 Dreamliner is a game-changer for our network. Its exceptional economics and range will allow us to sustainably grow our international presence and offer our passengers a superior travel experience as we connect Uzbekistan to the world.”

Boeing echoed the sentiment, highlighting the alignment with the airline’s vision. “Uzbekistan Airways is building a world-class fleet for a world-class network,” said Brad McMullen, Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing. “The 787 Dreamliner will provide the efficiency and flexibility they need to expand their reach. We are honored by their continued trust in Boeing’s products and services.”

This order represents a vote of confidence in both the future of air travel in Central Asia and in the Boeing 787 program. It positions Uzbekistan Airways to become a more prominent competitor on the global stage, leveraging modern technology to reduce operational costs and environmental impact while enhancing its inflight service. The additional Dreamliners will support the nation’s growing economic and tourism initiatives, facilitating increased connectivity and trade links for the Republic of Uzbekistan.
