Investment boosting MRO capacity for faster engine turnaround.

by Editorial Staff

StandardAero , a premier independent aerospace engine aftermarket services provider, has commenced construction on a significant 70,000 sq. ft. expansion at its Winnipeg, Manitoba facility. This investment, set to open in late 2026, will substantially grow the site’s maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capacity for two critical turbofan engine families.

The expansion directly targets increased support for the GE Aerospace CF34-3/8 engine, which powers popular regional jets like the Embraer E175 and MHIRJ CRJ700, and the CFM International CFM56-7B engine, the powerplant for the Boeing 737 NG and military variants such as the P-8A Poseidon. The project will increase the building’s footprint by 40%, incorporating advanced equipment and processes to enhance operational efficiency and turnaround times for global commercial and military operators.

The development is supported by a partnership with the Manitoba provincial government, which is contributing $3 million to the project. This collaboration underscores the region’s strategic importance in the global aerospace sector.

“This investment reinforces our commitment to CF34 and CFM56 customers worldwide and to our skilled Winnipeg workforce,” said Russ Ford, Chairman & CEO of StandardAero. He highlighted the company’s 25-year legacy on the CF34 platform and its 114-year presence in the community.

Manitoba’s Minister of Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation, the Honourable Jamie Moses, noted the expansion as a testament to the province as a premier investment destination, supporting thousands of local jobs.

Peter Wheatley, Vice President & General Manager for the CF34/CFM56 programs, confirmed that the new capacity is largely pre-secured through long-term customer contracts. The expansion will benefit the site’s 1,500 employees and solidify StandardAero’s reputation for service excellence.

Echoing the sentiment from the engine OEM, Vivek Kuppusamy, General Manager for Regional Engines at GE Aerospace, stated, “This site expansion highlights our commitment to an MRO network that offers customers choice and capability to meet surging travel demand.”

The expansion positions StandardAero’s Winnipeg campus as an even more critical hub in the global aerospace MRO network, ready to meet growing demand with enhanced capacity and capability.
