Building upon a long-standing partnership, Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, and Emirates airline have significantly expanded their maintenance agreement for the A380 fleet. The enhanced, long-term contract now introduces a new, dedicated support program specifically for main landing gear overhauls. This strategic amendment is designed to increase service availability and streamline operations for the iconic double-decker aircraft, ensuring seamless fleet performance.
A key feature of this agreement is the empowerment of Emirates’ technical teams. Collins Aerospace will provide specialized training to Emirates’ maintenance personnel, enabling them to perform select on-site landing gear work at the Emirates Engineering facility in Dubai. This collaborative approach grants the airline greater operational autonomy and scheduling flexibility. For scheduled heavy maintenance, Collins will continue to utilize its globally situated MRO centers in the UAE and Miami, creating an efficient and resilient support network.
Matt Maurer, vice president and general manager of Landing Systems at Collins Aerospace, emphasized the customer-centric focus of the extension. “Collins Aerospace is committed to delivering value-added support to our customers. With this MRO extension, we’re empowering Emirates with greater autonomy and scheduling flexibility, enabling them to exceed operational demands and enhance aircraft availability,” Maurer stated.
The A380’s landing gear is among the most complex in the world, with each main gear requiring immense strength to support the aircraft’s maximum takeoff weight of over 575 tons. Collins Aerospace, leveraging decades of industry leadership, is the original equipment manufacturer for this critical system.
