Driven by airline demand to cut operational costs and streamline operations, FL Technics Wheels & Brakes is executing an ambitious strategy to become Europe’s largest independent MRO network for aircraft wheels and brakes. The company, founded in 2022, has leveraged the strong outsourcing trend to rapidly grow into Europe’s second-largest provider. It now aims to double its footprint by 2030, solidifying its continental leadership.
“Airlines are intensely focused on their core operations. Managing wheels and brakes in-house creates significant hidden overhead and complexity,” explains Zilvinas Lapinskas, CEO of FL Technics Group. “Partnering with a specialist provides security, predictable costs, and lets them concentrate on flying.”
Strategic proximity to clients is central to the company’s model. Its four facilities in Hanover (Germany), Budapest (Hungary), Vilnius (Lithuania), and the new 2025 site in Bergamo (Italy) were chosen for their access to major airport hubs and road networks. This deliberate placement slashes logistics costs and turnaround times for carriers across key European markets.
Beyond scale and speed, FL Technics is building a foundation of sustainability. Its modern facilities, like the EPC and BREEAM-certified Budapest shop, are designed for maximum energy efficiency. The strategic location of its shops further reduces transportation emissions. The company also partners with suppliers like Bridgestone to source environmentally progressive materials, including retreaded tires, helping airlines meet stringent ESG targets.
“Our clients prioritize three pillars: turnaround time, price, and quality. We’ve proven we can deliver all three,” says Lapinskas. He acknowledges some market conservatism towards outsourcing this critical service but positions the company as an educator. “We are demonstrating that specialized outsourcing is not only reliable and cost-efficient but can also be a driver for greener operations.”
As fleet expansions and passenger numbers continue to rise, the pressure on airlines to optimize maintenance spending intensifies. By combining rapid strategic growth with a commitment to operational and environmental efficiency, FL Technics Wheels and Brakes is positioning itself as the definitive partner for airlines looking to navigate this complex landscape.
