At the MRO Europe event in London, easyJet and Lufthansa Technik have announced a major seven-year extension to their maintenance partnership. The agreement confirms Lufthansa Technik Sofia in Bulgaria as the primary provider for heavy base maintenance checks on easyJet’s entire Airbus A320 family fleet, including both ceo and neo models.
This long-term deal ensures that each winter season, four dedicated hangar bays at the Sofia facility will be exclusively reserved for easyJet’s aircraft. This winter capacity is crucial for the airline, which operates under multiple European AOCs, to support its ongoing fleet growth and maintenance schedule.
Brendan McConnellogue, easyJet’s Director of Engineering and Maintenance, highlighted the site’s key role: “Lufthansa Technik Sofia plays a major part in our outsourced base maintenance activity. The teams work brilliantly together each winter season to meet our ever-growing needs.”
Daniel Hepworth, Senior Director of Corporate Sales for Western Europe at Lufthansa Technik, noted the deep trust behind the renewal. “We are thrilled easyJet has once again renewed our long-term agreement. This partnership, marked by more than 500 maintenance checks over the past decade, is built on consistently delivering safe, reliable aircraft on time and on budget.”
The relationship dates back to 2015, with a formal five-year contract signed in 2016. The partnership has steadily expanded, with dedicated maintenance bays growing from 1.5 to the current four. This new seven-year term solidifies Sofia as a cornerstone of easyJet’s maintenance strategy, complementing light base maintenance work performed by Lufthansa Technik Milan.
The contract underscores Lufthansa Technik’s position as a global MRO leader, with its Sofia hub playing a specialized role in serving high-volume, narrowbody operators like easyJet, whose distinctive orange jets will remain a fixture at the Bulgarian site for winters to come.
